ABOUT US

Githiga Children’s Home is a faith-based, non-profit residential center that sponsors and caters for the needs of orphans and vulnerable children.  The home is run and sponsored by the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), Githunguri Presbytery.  It is located in Githiga sub-location , Ikinu location Githunguri District, Kiambu Country, Central Province of Kenya.

Since 1959, the home has made a meaningful, long-lasting difference in the lives of hundreds of orphans and vulnerable children. The staff consists of a highly dedicated team of Christians who act as the guardian of the children placed under their care.   The home strives to provide the following to the children;

  • Shelter & Nutrition

  • Quality Education & Training

  • Solid Christian upbringing

P.C.E.A Githiga Children’s Home was started by the community in 1959 after the demise of some parents and arrest of others during the ‘Emergency Era’ and colonial rule.

The first lots of children were 18 boys.  The community placed them in one dormitory, fed them and provided clothing.  After a period of time, due to challenges, maintaining the boys became difficult.  In 1968, the Local Authority requested the Local Presbyterian church to assist and take over the running of the home.  Since then, Githunguri Presbytery has been managing and running the home.
